Sweet Smelling Memories
Yesterday, as I put on my cherry chap-stick and laid down in bed, a flood of memories came rushing to my mind. Isn't it funny how scents can do that. I think smell is the most powerful of senses.
Sometimes Ryan will wear one of his old colognes, and I will remember a fun time from when we were dating. Or sometimes the smell of a certain food will bring back a childhood memory. I think we can revisit memories through all of our senses. We can taste memories, many times we see them. Maybe a certain sound can help us remember, and at times we can even feel memories.
I think my favorite way to remember though, is through my sense of smell. Whenever I make "Grandma's Hot-dish" memories of her seem to mingle with the aroma that fills my kitchen. Smells of a bon-fire always make me think of fond times at Grandpa's cabin. The smell of rain brings me back to playing in the rain as a child. Splashing in the puddles, carefree and wet!
So today, I am thankful for many things. But most of all, I am thankful for my sense of smell.
